This trip will highlight the typical temperate grasslands and forests of northern China, combining landscape beauty, scientific research and tourist spots. On the first day we will pass the legendary Great Wall and appreciate the temperate forests of Song Shan and the subalpine meadows around the ski area in Chongli District, one of the sites for the 2022 Winter Olympics. We will enjoy numerous colorful flowers, such as those of Chamerion angustifolium, Sanguisorba officinalis, Brassica napus, Potentilla fruticosa, Trollius chinensis, Echinops latifolius and Scabiosa tschiliensis along the beautiful Sky Road on the second day. We will then visit the ancient Upper Capital of the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), which was established by the ‘empire on horseback’ on Jinlianchuan meadow. Common species are Dracocephalum moldavica, Aster alpinus, Orchis latifolia, Rubia yunnanensis, Haplophyllum dauricum, Phlomis tuberosa, Leymus chinensis and Agropyron cristatum. Next, we will visit two typical grassland ecology research stations of the Institute of Botany of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to meet the ecologists. On the sixth day we will explore the Hexigten World Geo Park before returning to Beijing via Chifeng City.
