Beautiful Hainan Island is a shining pearl in the South China Sea. This trip will start from Haikou, the provincial capital of Hainan. First, we visit Dongzhaigang Mangrove Nature Reserve, then Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden. Afterwards, two nature reserves (Diaoluo Mountain and Jianfengling) are the highlight of the tour. The trip will end in Sanya, a city famous for coastal landscapes. This trip showcases the fascinating biological diversity of Hainan Island, from species-rich tropical rain forests to spectacular coastal mangroves. We explore both in situ conservation in the national forest parks (nature reserves) and ex-situ conservation of medicinal and aromatic plants in the botanical gardens. Participants will not only experience vibrant biomes with a diversity of flowering plants, but also fossil deposits. On this trip, we will not only see the ‘End of the Earth’ and the customs and culture of ethnic minorities, but also deep tropical rainforests. We will also visit some important Chinese scientific research facilities, including the Dongzhaigang protected areas, Diaoluo Mountain Nature Reserve, Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden, Xinglong South Medicinal Botanical Garden, Jianfengling (near the easternmost end of the range of Ancistrocladus (Ancistrocladaceae) and some of the largest trees of Altingia (Altingiaceae) in China), and the Sanya Museum of Natural History.
